What the chamber accepts

Matrimonial matters are conducted with the discretion the subject requires, and with an eye to what can realistically be settled. A contested divorce that could have been a mutual-consent petition costs both parties years.

The chamber accepts petitions for divorce by mutual consent and contested divorce, applications for maintenance under section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and its successor provision, interim maintenance and litigation expenses under section 24 of the Hindu Marriage Act, custody, visitation and guardianship, proceedings under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, and restitution of conjugal rights.

Transfer petitions, and matters where one spouse resides outside India, are accepted; where a party cannot travel, appearance may be arranged through a properly executed and apostilled power of attorney.
