The Work

What the chamber accepts

Criminal work in the chamber runs from the stage of an FIR or a summons through to trial and appeal. The first question in most matters is bail, and the second is whether the proceedings ought to be quashed at all.

The chamber accepts applications for regular and anticipatory bail before the Sessions Courts and the Delhi High Court, petitions for quashing under the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court, revisions and appeals, and complaints and defences under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which are heard by the Metropolitan Magistrates.

Matters involving economic offences, the Economic Offences Wing and cyber-crime cells are accepted, as are proceedings arising out of matrimonial complaints where a criminal and a family dispute are running in parallel.
